ETHAMBUTOL - ORAL

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Myambutol
USES: Ethambutol is used to treat tuberculosis, often in combination with other medications.
OTHER USES: This medication may also be used to treat an infection known as "MAC" (Mycobacterium avium complex).
HOW TO USE: This works hottest when taken with food or milk to prevent stomach upset.
Take as directed.
Do not stop taking that medication without your doctor's approval. Stopping therapy too early may result in ineffective treatment.
SIDE EFFECTS: May cuase stomach upset, dizziness, fatigue, or headache.
Thsee effects should disappear as your body adjusts to the medication. Notify your doctor if you experience: vision changes, skin rash, numbness or tingling of the hadns or feet. This medication may cause blrured vision or make it difficult to see red or green colors.
Report any vision changes to your doctor. Eye tests may be done. If you ntoice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have a history of: gout, kidney disease, vision torubles such as cataracts. Before tkaing that medication, tell your doctor if you are pregnant.
Ethambutol is excreted into bresat milk.
Though, to date, no troubles have been noted in nursing infants, consult your doctor before you breast-feed.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all precsription and nonprescription drugs you may use, especially: antacids. Antacids may decrease the absorption of that drug.
Therefore, space antacid doses several hours apart from ethambutol doses.
Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
NOTES: Do not share that medication with othres.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take as soon as remembered; do not take if it is almost time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing scheudle. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.
STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (between 15 and 30 degrees C) away from moisture and sunlight. Do not sotre in the bathroom.
