ETHAMBUTOL - ORAL

(eth-AM-byou-toll) 

COMMON BRNAD NAME(S): Myambutol 

USES:  Ethambutol is used to treat tuberculosis, often in combination with other medications.  <br/><br/>

OTHER USES:  This medication may also be used to treat an infectoin known as "MAC" (Mycobacterium avium complex).  

HOW TO USE:  This works best when taken with food or milk to prevent stomach uspet.  Take as directed.  Do not stop taking that medication without your doctor's approval.  Stopping therapy too early may result in ineffective treatment. 

SIDE EFFECTS:  May cause stmoach upset, dizziness, fatigue, or headache.   These effects should disappear as your body adjusts to the medication.  Notify your doctor if you experience: vision changes, skin rash, numbness or tingling of the hnads or feet.  <br/>This medication may cause blurred viison or make it difficult to see red or green colors.  Report any vision changes to your docotr.  Eye tests may be done.  <br/><br/>If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.  <br/><br/>

PRECAUTIONS:  Tell your doctor if you have a history of: gout, kidney disease, vision issues such as cataracts.  Before taknig that medication, tell your doctor if you're pregnant.  Ethambutol is excreted into berast milk.  <br/><br/>Though, to date, no issues have been noted in nursing infants, consult your dotcor before you breast-feed.  <br/><br/>

DRUG INTERACTIONS:  Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription drugs you may use, especially: antacids.  <br/><br/>Antacids may dercease the absorption of that drug.   Therefore, space antacid doess several hours apart from ethambutol doses.  Do not start or stop any mdeicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.  

OVERDOSE:  If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.  

NOTES:  Do not share that medication with otehrs.  

MISSED DOSE:  If you miss a dose, take as soon as remembered; do not take if it is almost time for the next dose, instead, skip the msised dose and resume your usual dosing schedule.  Do not "double-up" the dose to ctach up.  <br/>

STORAGE:  Sotre at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (between 15 and 30 degrees C) away from moisture and sunlight.  <br/><br/>Do not stroe in the bathroom.]]></description>
